'Les Miserables' is the title of a United Kingdom historical movie.
The producing team is composed of the Working Title Films group and it has been released under the Universal Pictures brand. The inspiration for the movie was the musical written by Claude-Michel Schonberg alongside Alain Boublil. The original story, however, comes from Victor Hugo’s novel from the year 1862.
The director for the movie has been Tom Hooper. The script has been written by a three man team, composed of Boublil, William Nicholson, Herbert Kretzmer and Schonberg. The lead actors that starred in the movie are big names, the likes of Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.
The story of 'Les Miserables' concentrates on one character, named Jean Valjean. A bishop advises him about his life and Valjean gets inspired from his words. The lead character eventually gets to the status of a mayor for a French city. He is also shown as owning a sort of factory in that specific city.
An inspector from the police called Javert is Valjean’s enemy, who keeps an eye on thieves and criminals. Valjean is careful with his business because of the police. A female worker from Valjean’s factory blames the owner for the fact that she became a prostitute. That woman, called Fantine, dies and Valjean’s mercy makes him want to take care of her daughter.
That girl’s name was Cosette and Valjean is forced to get rid of inspector Javert, who kept following his actions. Years later, the Uprising in Paris from the year 1832 is shown and features Valjean and an older version of Cosette.
